Ta-Daaaa! Before & After Photos From Cleaning Out the Storage Room

I have this lengthy list of things we have to do to get our house ready for the housing market. BUT it is such a wonderful feeling to have my second storage room DONE.

So of course, I made a video about it. Daniel told me I should make one of those time-lapse videos where it shows you cleaning in super speed, so I made one and put it on the ends of this update video:

I’m also learning more about how to make decent YouTube videos….. Sorry, I did not learn in time to not film the ceiling while showing off my storage room. Ha! Practice makes perfect, right?

I felt so accomplished about this part of the cleaning process.

This is ALLLL the stuff in the back of my van that I took to Goodwill this week that used to be in our storage rooms!

Ah, it feels good to say good-bye to those things of the past. That doesn’t even show the three or four bags of trash we discarded.

Extra clutter is more than just bad for home selling. It is also a steady energy-drainer. I feel like I’m giving us all back some joy as I clean the extra things out of our home.

Here are the Before & Afters:

Here are some of the things we got rid of:

-pictures that used to hang in baby nurseries

-clothes that fit none of us

-clothes that just aren’t my favorites

-books we do not want to read again

-pillows that are too flat (We trashed those.)

-extra blankets that aren’t even cute or are super beat up and old

-purses that do not “spark joy”

-puzzles

-Skylanders

-toy dinosaurs

I don’t even remember what else, but man it felt good to have it all gone!

Reorganizing was also a huge part of this job.

You just never know how many boxes can be combined, cleaned out, or tossed until you get in there and comb through each individual box. All this work was SO worth it. It had been a couple of moves since I had gone through the storage bins this thoroughly.

Next Up:

The large, main room of the basement. (These storage rooms were also in the basement.) The basement was so neglected at this house. No one ever gave it much love. It was going to be a play room, but the kids never wanted to go down and play in the basement. Then it was going to be for video games, but it did not have good wi-fi. We think we’ve fixed the wi-fi problem, but everyone has already accepted the basement as a “bleh” place, so no one does anything at all down there.

Well, I mean, no one except me. I go down there constantly because the laundry room is down there.

Actually, during the pandemic lockdown, the basement was a place I could hide and look at my phone in peace and quiet.

NO ONE likes to go down there except for me. Even the dog! Y’all, the dog REFUSES to go past the bottom step to the basement. She will follow you down, stop at the bottom step, try a paw or two on the basement floor, whine, and then either sit down on the stairs or go back upstairs.

It’s hilarious but also kind of sad.

I’m sure I’ll have an update on the basement progress in the next couple of weeks. Hope everyone has a great week! I hope this inspires you to free up some space by tossing some junk.

I love comments! Otherwise, it's really just me talking to myself.
