7 Encouraging Bible Verses for Women to Make Your Day Better

These are Bible verses, and a few whole Bible stories, that I find especially encouraging, as a woman. I hope you will too.

Some of these are specific to women, and some of them are helpful for everyone.

Being a woman can be an emotional roller coaster, it seems like all the time. When life is extra challenging, I also write some of these verses and others on post-it notes and stick them all over my house so I can get the encouragement I need just to carry on and keep trying.

What I love about these particular encouraging Bible verses is their reminder that God does not only care about men and leaders.

God is a champion for women too, and we need that.

Often in church, it can feel like the emphasis is on men. They want women to work in the nursery, but they want the men to do the preaching and the teaching. Even in our modern world, we can feel like, “Wait a minute. Are they looking down on us?”

Well, they should never be looking down on us. God does not look down on women. In fact, God thought Adam could not hack it on his own, so he made Eve. We are complementary to men, not less than men.

And I happen to be the kind of gal who needs extra encouragement from God frequently.

So here are 7 Encouraging Bible Verses and Stories about the way God also loves women.

#1.)The story of Hannah pleading with God for a son and God answering her prayer in 1 Samuel, chapter 1. God cares!!!

Here is part of the story:

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

1 Samuel 1:10-11

So many women struggle with this problem, of conceiving a child. We want this so badly, and sometimes it takes way longer than we want it to. Other times it doesn’t happen at all, and it is heart wrenching. Hannah weeps to God in bitterness of soul, and God grants her request.

And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 20 So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name [c]Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”

1 Samuel 1: 19-20

I love this story. I also have prayed on my face and wept in bitterness of soul. God cares about these requests. Sometimes he may not give us the answer we desire, but is always worth asking.

#2. Luke 1:46-50 Mary’s Song

This is just an excerpt from it:

 And Mary said:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.

Luke 1: 46-50

My favorite part is where she says, “He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant.”

God chose a regular woman to give birth to Jesus, not a rich, powerful person. He cares about all of us.

#3. Proverbs 31:10 Your worth is far above rubies.

“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.”

Proverbs 31:10

Your worth is far above rubies. I love it. Proverbs 31 goes on to detail so many wonderful things that women do. We take care of our homes, our children, we earn income, we give our family a good reputation that benefits the whole family. We are a blessing to our husbands.

Some people think of Proverbs 31 as daunting because they think they cannot live up to it. I do not see it that way at all. The verses in Proverbs 31 are the MOST encouraging to women. They give validation to us and all of the amazing things that we do. I think we do not even realize all the good things that women do.

#4. Proverbs 31: 30-31 Beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 31: 30-31

As I get older, and more and more of my youthful beauty fades away, this means more than ever. All that stuff is temporary, but your soul, your heart attitude, that is forever.

#5. Women can be prophets too, and one of the two prophets in the Bible who blessed Jesus as a baby was the prophetess, Anna.

Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; 37and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Luke 2:36-38

I love that God communicates with women as well as men and that that is recorded in the Bible.

#6. 1 Samuel 25: 3, 11-35 The story of wise Abigail and how she saves the day in spite of her husband

I love the story of Abigail. So many women find themselves in a difficult marriage to a harsh man. Such was the case with Abigail. She acted in wisdom to save her household, when her husband was foolish and stingy. And God rewarded her for it.

Not only did God reward her for her perseverance and her wisdom, but he actually struck the hard husband dead. Abigail even got to marry David, who became the king.

“The name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance; but the man was harsh and evil in his doings. “

1 Samuel 25: 3

Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, “Look, David sent messengers from the wilderness to greet our master; and he [d]reviled them. 15 But the men were very good to us, and we were not hurt, nor did we miss anything as long as we accompanied them, when we were in the fields. 16 They were a wall to us both by night and day, all the time we were with them keeping the sheep. 17 Now therefore, know and consider what you will do, for harm is determined against our master and against all his household. For he is such a scoundrel[e] that one cannot speak to him.”

18 Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five sheep already dressed, five seahs of roasted grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and loaded them on donkeys. 19 And she said to her servants, “Go on before me; see, I am coming after you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.

1 Samuel 25: 14-19

So David planned to raid Nabal’s house and destroy everything, but Abigail shows up with all the food and convinces him not to destroy anything. She apologizes on behalf of her husband for being foolish.

David is so impressed with her actions, he spares her property and her household.

To read that full story, see 1 Samuel, chapter 25.

#7. Esther. The whole book of Esther, but especially 4: 14-16. Here is another female who saves the day.

For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

-Mordecai in Esther 4: 14

This is so applicable to our modern lives. Who knows if God has put us where he places us to do some mighty work at just the right time? We all have our own missions to carry out.

The next part is even more inspirational:

Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai: 16“Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”

17So Mordecai went his way and did according to all that Esther commanded him.

Esther 4: 16-17

She is laying her life on the line here. She is willing to risk her LIFE to accomplish God’s mission and save her people. “If I perish, I perish.”

And notice Mordecai’s response. He respects her request. He doesn’t disdain her request because she’s a woman. Women in ancient times were not treated fair and equal, not even close. Women were second class citizens. But Esther makes a request of Mordecai, and Mordecai did according to all that Esther commanded him.

I could go on and on here. There are many stories about Jesus also being a friend to women and all of the women who followed him.

I will save those for a future post.

In conclusion, God loves women just as much as he loves men.

We are equal in value, but yeah, we are different and often serve different purposes. Women can be heroic like Esther, hard working like the Proverbs 31 woman, faithful like Hannah, obedient to God like Mary, wise like Abigail, prophetic like Anna, and so many other wonderful things.
