When You Want a Do Over

When You Want a Do Over

what to do when you feel like a failure. So you want a do over.
Stop and Pray. Think about what you HAVE done. Feel good about that. make a small plan and move on.

This is one of those days when by lunch I wanted a do over.

Isn’t that like the ultimate little kid thing to say???

“Watch me!”

*goofs it up*

“Do over! Do over! It was the wind. I get a do over.”

But you know what? Life isn’t the Olympics…I mean not usually. I’ve never been to the Olympics, nor am I an athlete of any kind. For some rare members of the human race, I guess some days life really is the Olympics…

Ha! But most days aren’t. So you know what? We can absolutely have a do-over on a plain old ordinary day.

This morning. I felt disappointed in my performance as a good human being. I threw a fit trying to fix something on my son’s Switch account. Electronics hate me.

Plus, by 11am I felt like a giant failure because I had NO PLAN. There was no sort of agenda set for today at all. This morning I’d wasted waaaay too much time on a little phone app called Township. That app will be the death of me. I waste so much time feeding virtual cows and filling train cars.

I proclaimed a big fat DO OVER by lunch time today.

My day does not have to continue on a path that is making me irritable. Having no plans makes me so grumpy and confused.

I called my youngest son over. Did I mention I have four sons? I handed him my phone, and I said, “Please take this upstairs to my room, so I can stop looking at it.”

Surely y’all can relate, right??? Why are these tiny devices SOOO addictive???

Instantly, my head was more clear. I grabbed my calendar and jotted down all the things I had actually accomplished that morning, even though my negative Nancy self felt like I’d done nothing at all:

-Bible Time

-Make lunch

-Walk

-Morning Chores

See? That’s not really nothing.

Writing down to-do lists after the fact might sound weird, but I’m telling you that mentally it helps me. I have a focus problem. When I have no plan (no list), I feel completely lost and panicked. There are a billion different things I could do, some I want to do, some I do not, but without a list, I have no idea which one to pick!

When You want a Do over

So after writing the things I have already done, I do make a list of what I want or need to do for the rest of the day.

Yeah, yeah, make a list. Not exactly earth shattering advice. But look at me now. I’m down here in the basement with both the washer and the dryer running, clean folded clothes in the basket beside me, and now I’m getting to work on my blog, which is something I actually enjoy.

So Yeah! You know what, sometimes, in ordinary moments, there are totally do overs.
