Day One of the 30 Day Decluttering Challenge: Living Room
We are kicking off day one of our 30 Day Decluttering Challenge, and I am excited to get this started!
This is a fun way to work on decluttering your house. There is something about having a plan and a group of people to follow along with that makes cleaning house more fun.
Also, I think having a challenge like this that works in small ten-fifteen minute increments helps you actually get more done. Decluttering can be such an overwhelming task. When it is broken down into small ten minute jobs, it becomes much easier.
To learn more about the 30 Day Decluttering Challenge as a whole, you can read my article on it here.
Have you gotten your free printable decluttering calendar yet?
You can also get it in a list format:
For Challenge Day One, we are decluttering the living room for ten minutes.
We are focusing on the surfaces of our living rooms.
-Start with a bag for trash, a container for giveaway items you find, and a laundry basket or bag for items that need to be placed back where they belong in another room.
-Set a timer for ten minutes. I use the timer on my stove. Then go to town clearing off the surfaces of your living room.
-When the timer goes off, disperse the items you collected in your basket/bag to the rooms where they belong.
-In the video, you will notice I worked on two different rooms. That is because I worked on the living room yesterday too, so I only spent five minutes on the living room for day one. Then I moved on to the kitchen and spent the last five minutes decluttering in there.
-You can tailor this challenge to meet your needs.
Here’s my video about day one, and you can see what all I did:

I got all the fall decorations cleaned up out of the living room to make way for Christmas decor, and I moved some things out that didn’t belong and took them to their home. I feel very accomplished! I love using a timer – it really keeps me on track!
Hurray!! I love that feeling.
